    Clare and Jean-Pierre

In the summer of 2017 Jean-Pierre and I received our first guests for our new cycling holidays company 'Cycle South West France'. This was a very exciting moment, as with all new businesses, but also because it showed an idea that we had had for many years finally coming to fruition.

I first moved to Lot-et-Garonne in 2008 for a year as part of my studies for a degree in French. I fell in love with the area, met Jean Pierre, and after heading back to the UK to finish my studies and work, I knew I would eventually move back to this beautiful part of the world.

Lot-et-Garonne is a fantastic area, there is so much to see, and much quieter than the more touristy Bordeaux or the Dordogne. For me, this makes Lot-et-Garonne the perfect 'slightly-off-the-beaten-track ' destination. There are beautiful landscapes, rivers for kayaking, quiet back roads and the Canal de Garonne for biking, fantastic south of France weather, and not to mention delicious local wine.

Jean-Pierre and I have always loved sports, generally being active and outdoorsy and the area lends itself to this lifestyle. Back in 2008 we had already started talking about how it would be great to set up a business in tourism in the area, particularly cyclo-tourism as we both felt there was so much potential.

So after working in a corporate job in London for a few years after graduating, and spending too many weekends waiting in airports for a flight to France, in 2014 I decided to take the plunge and move back.

I now run Cycle South West France in Lot-et-Garonne.

We are based in Buzet-sur-Baise, a pretty little village right next to the Canal de Garonne. Jean Pierre grew up here and knows the area inside out. He always knows the right person to talk to or the best place to visit.

Cycle South West France is based on the desire to show people this beautiful area, but in an affordable way, using Jean-Pierre's local knowledge, and my enthusiasm, to create circular itineraries and customised cycling holidays for people of all abilities.

This is a very new venture for us, it is very exciting, and has been a huge learning curve. We have loved every minute of it and are really enthusiastic for what the future will bring.

Send us an email and we will get back to you as soon as possible.

Richard & Sandy Hill - 1 week bike hire, delivery to their gîte in Aiguillon June 2017

    "Dear Clare,

The bicycles made our holiday. Sandy preferred hers to her one at home.

Cannot fault your service and the care you took to ensure that everything was as it should be.

My thanks to you and your partner.

We are planning a return trip next year and so we will be in touch again.

    My best regards

Jenny Nutter & Jennifer Sinclair - 6 day cycling break July 2016

We organised a 6 day cycling break for Jenny & Jennifer incorporating a variety of rides both flat and hilly ranging between 20 and 45km. They visited the pretty towns of Nérac, Mas d'Agenais and Vianne, went kayaking, had a tour/tasting at Domaine Calbo and did plenty of relaxing by the pool. They very kindly said the following of their stay:

"[the trip] exceeded our very high expectations - the highlight of our trip to France"

Jenny & Jennifer booked the accommodation for their stay on AirBnB and very kindly left us this lovely review:

"We spent 6 nights at Clare and Jean-Pierre's place in the gorgeous village of Buzet. The hosts were very friendly, welcoming and helpfully bilingual.

The house is beautiful, very bright and comfortable, with a large kitchen which is fully equipped for self catering. Our bedrooms were spacious with great wifi signal and best of all opened up onto a joint balcony overlooking the back garden. We had our own bathroom which was perfect, clean and equipped with the little extras.

We loved spending time in the garden in the chill out area as well as in the fabulous pool. Buzet is a fantastic location, perfect for our 6 days of cycling through the French countryside, along the canal and visiting other pretty villages nearby (we did it all by bike and didn't have a car).

Clare has bikes available to rent and can give advice on some great itineraries (see her website: www.cyclesouthwestfrance.com.) Ask about the ride which incorporates a visit and tasting at a local winery with Thierry!

Buzet itself is small however has a great Spar shop which we used for groceries for our 6 days, a bakery with the best croissants we had in France and 4 restaurants with our favourite one being on the corner, overlooking the canal.

Overall, we thought this was the perfect experience to get the local insight while being great value for money. We'll be back again next year!"

Thanks girls - we are looking foward to having you back sometime!

Top quality road bike hire based in the Tarn

"Taste of Toulouse offers English-speaking food tours and other delicious adventures. Experience the Marché Victor Hugo on Wednesday and Friday mornings!"

"Here are some of the highlights of our trip and recommendations.
-first the pannier bags are essential. We were able to use them and tie our backpacks on top. Given the heat that was so important but I think in any situation it would just be easier and more comfortable.
-in no particular order these were our must see stops. Bordeaux wine country especially Chateau Malromé, they do a wonderful wine tasting and a tour of the home which was Henri Toulouse Latrec's mother's home. The tour was amazing.
Revel, it's lake just to the North and Soreze are completely worth 2 days. We stayed in the mountains to bike to carcassonne which was a little hilly but completely worth it, the views and little towns were charming
Agen was a charming city with great food and the canal goes over the river which is a really neat sight.
    - mosaic is a must see town
    - Toulouse is a great city with fun activities
-Airbnb was essential to us and we were able to book the night before. If you are looking for places they were perfect. Key is wifi to book next spot.
    - always be on the lookout for water in each town. City center parks and statues usually had water.
-for relaxed biking 40 kilometers a day allowed for relaxed speed and frequent stops.
    - the canal to Toulouse was good but went downhill after that. Canal riding is fun for awhile but it is fun to get off and go off in the countryside. I would recommend the canal section from langon to Marmonde it was the most beautiful section
-canal was often the easiest way to get into the cities.
-maps me was an essential tool for navigation. Trust it even when it seems to be taking you through a corn field.
-booking last minute was fine for us until we got to the coast i would recommend booking your airbnb's for the coast well in advance"

Article 1 Contract Object - Provision of a bike and accessories by Jean Pierre Borie, T/A Cycle South West France hereafter “the Leaser”. Any suggestions given for routes, restaurants or additional activities are only suggestions and are not part of this contract.

Article 2 Definitions – Bike delivery to the person hiring the bike, hereafter “the Hirer” can be done directly by the Leaser or by one of its representatives, or by a third party.

All of the bikes are rented with the following accessories: bicycle helmet, lights, lock and puncture repair kit (at least one puncture repair kit per group.) Wearing a helmet is not obligatory under French law, but is strongly recommended by the Leaser.

Article 3 Start of the contract - The hire period starts when the Hirer receives the material which has been delivered to them, either by the Leaser or by a third party. The Hirer will be notified ahead of the delivery date that a third party will deliver the material .

This contract is only in place for the length of the hire. If the Hirer keeps the material for longer than this period without having informed the Leaser and paid for the extra time, then the Hirer loses all of the guarantees provided in this contract.

Article 4 Ownership and transfer of risks - The hired material remains the exclusive property of Jean Pierre Borie for the length of the hire period. During the rental the bicycle will be in the legal care of the Hirer and the Hirer will be responsible the case of theft and for any damage that may occur from the use and the possession of the material. This is until the material is returned to the Leaser or is in the possession of a third party for transfer.

Article 5 Obligations and responsibility of the Hirer - Only adults are authorised to sign the hire contract. Children must have a signed parental authority. The Hirer cannot sub-lease the material to a third person without the agreement of the Leaser.

The Hirer is responsible for ensuring he/she is physically fit enough to ride a bicycle, has no medical reason not to and will not ride more than he/she is physically capable of doing.

The Hirer confirms that the bike has been handed to them in good and safe working condition. If the Hirer receives the bikes from a third party he/she must notify the Leaser of any problems before starting their journey.

The Hirer is responsible for any damage caused to a third party and any damage caused to the bicycle and any material that has been provided. The Hirer will be held personally responsible in case of theft of breakage regardless of who caused it.
The Hirer is responsible for any Highway Code violation. The Hirer agrees to use the bike carefully and responsibly without endangering others and conforming local road laws. It is forbidden to use the bicycle off-road.

When leaving the bicycle unattended in a public place, the Hirer agrees to secure the bicycle using the lock provided and remove any item that can be easily stolen. In case of theft or accident, the Hirer must immediately notify the Leaser and declare the theft to the local authorities within 48 hours.

If there are any problems with the bicycle other than punctures, then the Hirer must not try and repair the bicycle themselves without the permission of the Leaser. The Hirer must notify the Leaser immediately by telephone.

Repair of punctures is the responsibility of the Hirer.

When hiring an electric bike the hirer takes responsibility for charging the battery to ensure that they can travel the distance planned. The hirer is aware that the bicycle has an assisted speed of up to 25km/hr but can go much faster than this and will take the necessary care to ensure they are always in control and riding safely and responsibly.

Article 6 Reservation Deposit - The hire is reserved by a transfer of an advance payment of 20% of the total amount. If the Hirer picks up the bike directly from the Leaser then the final amount is due upon reception. If the Hirer cancels the reservation more than 28 days before the beginning of the hire period the Leaser agrees to reimburse the total money received minus administration fees (25 Euro per hire). If the Hirer cancels the reservation less than 28 days before the beginning of the hire period, no reimbursement will be made.

The same applies if the bicycle is delivered to the Hirer except that the Hirer must pay the full hire amount before the beginning of the hire period (to be agreed during reservation process.). If the Hirer then cancels the delivery charges will not be reimbursed.

Any hire that has been completed will under no circumstances be reimbursed.

Article 7 Security Deposit - a security deposit is required for each bicycle in case of damage or theft. Amount depending on number of bicycles. This is payable via cash, cheque or Paypal and will be returned at the end of the hire.

Article 8 Changes to reservation - Where the bicycle is being picked up directly from the Leaser , changes can be made up to 24h before the start of the hire period. When the bicycle will be delivered changes cannot be made later than 48 hours before the delivery will take place.
